Our recent NSS Club Night was a huge success, bringing together athletes from all levels for an evening packed with excitement, camaraderie, and plenty of splashes. The event, open to our entire club, offered age group and senior athletes the perfect opportunity to fine-tune their race experience ahead of the NZ Short Course Champs. Meanwhile, our junior swimmers embraced the night as a chance to practise their race starts before the upcoming Level 3 competition—while having heaps of fun in the process.
The highlight of the night was undoubtedly the mixed medley 50s and 25s. These races saw our age and senior athletes face off in thrilling, fast-paced sprints that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. The energy was electric, with swimmers giving it their all and the crowd cheering them on every stroke of the way.
But the excitement didn’t stop there. The evening culminated in the highly anticipated Mega Relay, which truly brought out the best in our members. With nine teams of ten athletes each, the 10x25 Freestyle Mega Relay was a sight to behold. Senior and age group members took the lead, with juniors spread across the teams to ensure a fair and fierce competition. The pool was alive with the sounds of encouragement and the sight of determined swimmers giving their all.
In the end, it was Team Silver, led by the dynamic Breaststroke duo of Melissa Cowen and Elwin Bao, who claimed the top spot on the podium. Close behind, Team White, led by Dom Wharepouri and Grayson Coulter, secured second place, while Team Brown, under the leadership of Jacob Humphries and Michael Brady, rounded out the top three. The smiles and laughter that filled the pool area were a testament to the spirit of friendly competition and the strong bonds within our club.
Off the pool deck, the fun continued with a raffles that saw a few lucky members walking away with fantastic prizes. A special shoutout to Funky Trunks and Funkita for their generous donation of vouchers — our winners are already looking forward to freshening up their pool attire.
We can’t wait to see even more of our members at the next Club Night, where the fun, fierce competition, and unforgettable memories will continue. See you poolside!
